Usually a full restoration project will consist of pebbledash/render removal, bricks to be cleaned, repairing of brickwork, all bricks to be stained using a tint solution to fully restore original colour, all brickwork repointed, window sills & render features repaired & decorated, a smart drain system installed at the front of the property, new soffits & facias, chimney flaunched & pots reset.
Pointing/Repointing is having the old or failed mortar removed from the brick or stonework and replaced with new mortar using the original ingredients & techniques used when the building was built.
Rendering is a technique used to apply a Plaster like Mortar using either Lime or sand & cement. The age of the property & mortars used originally will determine wether your building needs a sand & cement or a lime based mortar to be used. Plastering is the same technique used on the inside of the property, the age of the property & original mortars used will determine wether you need a lime plaster or a modern material.
Pebbledashing is a technique used on the exterior; you render the exterior and then fan stones over the wet render to create a pebbledashed effect.
Exterior painting & decorating can really add the final touch to your property. Having the window sills filled from any chips & cracks, any featured render or whole rendered walls we have all your exterior decorating needs covered. The age of the property & building methods originally used will determine wether your property needs a lime based paint or your standard exterior paints.
Cleaning brickwork either using steam/chemicals is a really effective way to get your bricks looking brand new & fresh again, it removes any stains, pollution damage or damp from the exterior. We find a hydrofluoric acid & jet wash system to be the most effective way to clean your brickwork & the cheapest. For stonework however we would always advise steam cleaning methods.
When removing render to restore the brickwork underneath it is important that only hand tools are used in the removal process; this is to reduce any damage to brickwork that lay underneath, using power tools can potentially cause structural issues & major damage to the brickwork underneath.
